Why can't we collect CO2 from the atmosphere, break it down in a lab and just release the O2 back in order to slow climate change?

We can, here is a picture of the machine we would use for that job:

This machine is built from self-organising nanomachines, can self-repair and self-replicate, requires little to no maintenance, is solar powered and both converts CO2 to O2 and also sequesters atmospheric carbon within itself. It also acts as habitat for wildlife!
It’s a technological marvel that’s the result of billions of years of R&D, and the best thing is that it’s available now and it’s dirt cheap.
Honestly, what do you think we could do in a lab which even comes close to this incredible biomachine?

Geoff Caplan:
Unfortunately if you do the math, this wonderful machine can only play a marginal role in saving our planet for human habitation. We want as many of them as possible for a host of good reasons, but it’s important not to over-hype their potential and divert attention from higher impact policies.
